Welcome!

December is the month I associate with festive holidays, socializing at parties and gatherings with friends and family. Unfortunately, it is also the month individuals tend to feel the most “disconnected and alone”.

For myself, over the years I have built strong relationships with friends which I consider my family. A strong family bond of trust in the knowledge, we will show up for each other.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer offers in her book “The Joy of Connections” 100 ways to beat loneliness and live a happier and more meaningful life” a step-by-step common-sense strategy and model to begin building connections to others towards eliminating the feeling of “loneliness”.  Ruth’s “Menu for connection” which she discusses begins first with loving and knowing “self”, reconnecting with family friends & lovers, options to explore in “community” and yes, using “technology” to connect.

Dr. Ruth shares her wisdom and insights with humor on lessons learned during her life as a map to follow with a “It Can Be done” attitude” and acknowledging “the key of ridding your life of loneliness resides inside you”.

As a bonus, she shares a conversation on the Epidemic of Loneliness” with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy in America. In 2023 Dr. Ruth was named by Governor Kathy Hochul, New York’s Ambassador to Loneliness.

I especially appreciate her suggestion and agree with creating a “A new family from friends”.  I am a positive example of how a” family of friends” eliminates loneliness and brings fulfillment to one’s life.   I was young, when I decided to moved out of my family home. I found myself isolated from my family, so friends became my family.

Over 40 years ago, I began to create my family of friends.  My friends and I have shared each other’s “joys” of the up’s and “sorrows” of the downs of life. In a world of so much uncertainty, my family of friends fulfill my life’s need of “belonging” to a loving reciprocal community.

In case your excuse is, “you don’t have time”, “The Joy of Connections” Dr Ruth’s chapters are formatted to fit 1- tops ; 2 pages: it is easy to pick up the book and get exceptional advise or idea in only a few minutes  to try as the next step to  eliminate loneliness. Give yourself a holiday gift today, by checking out this book from the library!

Enjoy your HOLIDAY SEASON!

Looking forward to meeting you over a cup of coffee and conversation.
