 Welcome back!

September is back to school, parents and teachers top focus is preparing for a student’s return to classes.

This is the month I start to prepare for the winter bad weather by gathering books at the NYC Stavros Niarchos library on 5th Avenue.  Libraries are a great source for learning with their many courses and lectures for all ages.  Stavros Niarchos library after renovation has a Café on the top floor with a balcony where one can sit at a table, enjoy a cup of coffee, and read a book, with a view of 5th Avenue Main library!!!

My last trip to the library I borrowed, Kristen Butler’s book “The Key to Positivity –Why You’ve Got the Comfort Zone All Wrong- and How to Tap its Power to Live Your Best Life Now.  She offers a new view on the value of being in your “Comfort Zone”. She defines the Comfort Zone as “…  a place where you feel safe and at ease, without stress. It’s where you can be fully yourself without feeling threatened. It’s your inner home. Your sanctuary”.

Ms. Butler, explains, Society today promotes: to be successful one has to step outside of their Comfort Zone; however, she disagrees instead we need to embrace our “Comfort Zone”. She summaries the benefits of Living inside the Comfort Zone as a place that “frees us and allows us to stay in the flow. By giving ourselves permission to be who we are, we gain the freedom to make choices that are rooted in our purpose.”

She offers a profile of the  “Comfort Zone” individual as  “Someone who loves creating in the flow, prioritize self -care,  authentic feel important to who you are,  passionate, seeks purpose, ,strives for growth ,intentional, you trust that everything is working out for you and that life is ultimately rigged in your favor if you… “

Ms. Butler examines the objections and the benefits of living in the Comfort Zone. She discusses the following important areas:

  1. 3 Zones and the living style – Outer/Middle/ Central -Comfort Zone

  2. Boundaries- the importance of being healthy, clear, and comfortable with you to be able to communicate with others.

  3. Emotions – importance of identifying, understanding, and directing between the 3 zones (i.e., confusion, jealousy, anxiety, overwhelmed etc.).  Listening to your emotions will help you know when you left the Comfort Zone and need to return to a place of safety to find solutions.

  4. RARE a method focusing on emotions – Recognize, Accept, Redefine -Evolve.

Ms. Butler offered her words of endorsement: “secret to success has been my commitment to consistently aligning with my Comfort zone and expanding it”. She provides the reader reflection exercise to explore their Comfort Zone Mindset

After reading The Key to Positivity   I came away understanding my reply when asked about a project, “I’m in my flow”.  I felt the “Comfort – Flow Zone” power as a place I feel safe, positive in who I am as a source of growth and confident in my ability to find lasting solutions and in turn the challenges promoted my growth.

If you have time this winter, check out The Key to Positivity.

Looking forward to meeting you over a cup of coffee and conversation !
